Donald Trump and Climate Change

From the beginning of his political journey, Trump has been vocal about his doubts regarding climate change. His approach to global warming has been, by far, one of the most debated aspects of his political career.

“Hoax” is the word used by Trump to describe climate change. He used it, for the first time, in a tweet from 2012, where he claimed: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive!” He also, used to cite cold weather events as evidence against global warming and criticize Obama’s actions against climate change. Trump claimed multiple times, that there are more important things the White House and the President of The United States should worry about.

At a debate, in 2016, Bernie Sanders hardly criticized Trump for his words about climate change. The next day, Trump responded on Fox News, saying that his famous tweet from 2012 was just… a joke.

Even though Donald Trump didn’t believe a thing about climate change and global warming, in 2016, one of his golf clubs asked officials in County Clare, Ireland, to approve the construction of a sea wall. Why? Well, he wanted a sea wall to guard against the dangers of sea level rise, and storms that were happening more and more frequently.

After he took office in 2017, his administration deprioritized actions against climate change: rolled back policies that helped mitigate warming, relaxed regulations for climate polluters, left the Paris Agreement, and more.

Obama introduced the Clean Power Plan, which aimed to reduce carbon emissions. That plan would have avoided about 400 million tons of emissions by 2030. Obviously, Trump replaced the Clean Power Plan with an Affordable Clean Energy rule, which didn’t set emission goals. So, every state could decide alone, how to regulate emissions from power plants. By following the Affordable Clean Energy rule, there could be avoided, just 11 million tons of CO2, by 2030.

What was the impact of these changes?

Kate Larsen, an analyst at the Rhodium Group, said that it’s very hard to quantify the impacts of these policy changes. But she and her colleagues tried anyway. After their research, the Rhodium analysts concluded that the Trump Administration’s actions could add a total of 1,8 billion tons of extra CO2 to the atmosphere by 2035. The number could be significantly higher, said Larsen. But they did everything with all the information they owned to approximate correctly.

Ok, let’s say that Donald Trump’s decisions and actions weren’t the best, considering the numbers scientists received in their research over the years. But will Biden succeed in replacing the course again? How long do they need for that? This was the question everyone had in mind in that period.

What experts had to say?

Delaying action to limit global warming would make the problem harder to solve. Climate experts warned everyone multiple times about the dangerous effects we could face if we are not keeping climate change under control. How much do, the 4 years of delay under President Donald J. Trump, really matter? Unfortunately, whether we like it or not we have lost some precious time. But if we look to the brighter side, nothing is irreversible. With a strong plan, significant changes can still be made.

Creating a future with fewer fossil fuels is becoming more and more expensive, yearly, creating even more pressure for future leaders.

One of Trump’s Most Significant Actions

Trump decided to withdraw from the Paris Agreement

The withdrawal was the most symbolic and impactful action of his administration regarding climate policy. He argued multiple times publicly, saying that the agreement was disadvantageous to the U.S. economy and unfair compared to other countries. The official withdrawal process began in November 2019 and concluded in November 2020.

2024 Elections

The 2024 presidential race is becoming more and more interesting. After Joe Biden’s quit and Kamala Harris’ powerful appearance, there are a lot of rumors circulating about Donald Trump’s claims over the years. As you already know, for a political figure, especially for a President of The United States, everything that was ever said publicly matters. So, even though Trump’s ideas might have changed, his old claims and speeches can still affect his reputation today. But can he lose the elections because of them? I guess, we’ll soon find out. The battle is really entertaining and the candidates’ next moves cannot be predicted.

Let’s see what Donald Trump said about global warming and space and why scientists pray he doesn’t get elected!

5 Claims Donald Trump Made about Global Warming

“Ice storm rolls from Texas to Tennessee – I’m in Los Angeles and it’s freezing. Global warming is a total, and very expensive hoax!”

“We should be focused on magnificently clean and healthy air and not destructive by the expensive hoax that is global warming!”

“This very expensive GLOBAL WARMING bullshit has got to stop. Our planet is freezing, record low temps, and our GW scientists are stuck in ice.”

“NBC News just called it the great freeze-coldest weather in years. Is our country still spending money on the GLOBAL WARMING HOAX?”

“This is the coldest weather in the history of the Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC and one of the coldest Thanksgiving on record!”

2 Things Donald Trump Said About Space

“Under my administration, we are restoring NASA to greatness and we are going back to the Moon, then Mars. I am updating my budget to include an additional $1,6 billion so that we can return to Space in a BIG WAY!”

Donald Trump, as a president, was known for his unconventional approach to politics. His direct communication style, business-oriented approach, and controversial statements made a lot of people resonate with the Democratic candidates. Trump is a smart person and a great leader, but his communication style can cost him a lot. For sure, he knows that. The fact that he doesn’t change is another sign that tells us, how strong and nonconformist he is.

Trump likes to be at the center of attention, and cannot accept managing an unsuccessful project. For example, he had several notable initiatives and statements about space policy. One of his greatest achievements was the establishment of the U.S. Space Force as a new branch of the armed services.

All of Trump’s actions were to maintain the U.S. superiority and protect it from potential adversaries. One of his goals is space exploration, which means enhancing American leadership and innovation.
