Let’s talk about dangerous vaccines!
No product in the known universe is 100% effective or 100% safe. There’s just no perfection when it comes to anything we consume or buy. Even something as simple as drinking tap water comes with certain risks, be it from old pipes leaking heavy metals into it, from environmental contamination, or from accidentally inhaling the liquid instead of drinking it.
That’s why, when it comes to the safety of a product, experts analyze the probability and size of the risk incurred in using the product. The interesting thing is that sometimes people tend to do certain things that come with lots of risks but are afraid of less risky things.
Case in point: Thousands of parents and caregivers sign up their kids to learn to swim, let them go to pool parties, or have a pool in their yard where they cool off in the hot summer days. Yet, swimming can’t be described as a safe activity for children.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are between 4,000 and 8,000 non-fatal drownings in the US each year.
On the other hand, something relatively safe, such as traveling by airplane, makes many people feel uneasy. Around 3% of the population fears flying so much that they avoid airplanes altogether. Yet, from 2000 to 2022, there were 19 deadly commercial aviation accidents in the US, which would mean less than 1 deadly accident per 10,000,000 departures.
This all brings us back to vaccines because these biological preparations are collectively safe, but they elicit a fear reaction in some people. Sometimes, the fear is understandable because there were some dangerous vaccines removed from the market that caused more harm than good. However, the good news is that, with the passage of time, scientists and vaccine manufacturers learn from past experiences to refine their formulations and do a better job.
This article is about those dangerous vaccines removed from the market that unfortunately ended up killing hundreds of people. Below are some historical examples of incidents and accidents associated with these dangerous vaccines.
