Dolphins also make the list of the most intelligent animals in the world. They are quick learners that can solve problems, demonstrate self-awareness, mimic human behavior, and teach others.

Both dolphins and whales have larger brains than humans—though we have a higher brain-to-body ratio—and they have the ability to locate objects through sound with echolocation.

Dolphins in separate pods have been found to use mud to make traps for fish and collect sponges to wear them for protection as they search for food among rocks and corals. These two examples confirm the ability of dolphins to employ tools and manipulate their surroundings to achieve an end.

Moreover, science has shown that these marine critters have sophisticated communication systems, with some species even using disincentive name-like whistels to identify each other. There’s no surprise that they are some of the most intelligent animals in the world.
