If you frequently consume microwaved meals, you are more likely to become obese. These foods are usually very high in calories, added sugar, and unhealthy fats, which can clearly lead to an increased caloric intake. And that’s not all! The convenience of the appliance will make you prefer processed foods over healthier options, which is completely wrong.

The comfort microwave gives us can also contribute to a more sedentary lifestyle. If the meals are quick and easy to prefer, there is less physical activity you need to do.

It can be difficult to make a significant change in your life, but don’t forget that baby steps and consistency matter! You don’t have to stop using your microwave in order to be healthier.

  2. Oh My, hot dogs are my favorite junk food. Sometimes kosher, sometimes Oscar Meyer all beef. I try to only indulge a few times a year.

    This isn’t an article about using microwave ovens, it’s an article about food choices—“microwave food”. Pre-packaged trash that people heat up in microwaves.
    All of your “warnings” are negated if you avoid pre-packged microwave-able “food”.

  4. The radiation is microwaves – radio waves. NOT radioactivity.
    Most sections are about microwave food, not the microwaving processes.

  5. Some food comes in plastic containers. Maybe that plastic is less toxic. Generally, it would be good to know if some plastic is better than other.

  6. It is a pity that this article is published. The author is either ignorant or misguided. He/She is confused , unable to distinguish between the type of heating and the food/container. PLastic containers will produce the effect mentioned whether heated by conventional methods or otherwise, nothing to do with microwave. Similarly the food. So please don’t try to bullshit. THank you

  7. I admit, I’m weird, especially for an American. I don’t own a microwave and back 20 years ago when I did, I only used it occasionally to heat coffee in a ceramic mug. I came home from work tired, but cooked something or made a salad.

  8. It’s hard to take a “Science” article seriously when there is clearly no proof reading. The second sentence in # 1 states..” the plastic containers are seriously affected by the head”. The head? really? I stopped reading after that.. Do better!

  9. I don’t understand why this important information isn’t already being provided to everyone in the entire country as a public service since food preparation is a daily function for virtually everyone either owning or having convenient access to a microwave oven or food prepared by one.

  10. We rarely use the microwave for reheating purposes but I do use it approximately two or three for wet-heating pad due to too much exercise and/or arthritis and want to make sure that the dangers of using a microwave oven for that purpose is safe.
