4. 2002 Lyme vaccine
A vaccine against Lyme disease, which is a bacterial infection transmitted through the bite of ticks, was licensed in 1998. In clinical testing, the three-dose vaccine showed up to 80% effectiveness. Three years later, the manufacturers voluntarily decided to withdraw it from the market.
The reason for the vaccine withdrawal was the increased media attention to people reporting adverse events, along with the threats of litigation by lawyers representing those who reported severe adverse events after receiving the vaccine. In other words, we’re talking about dangerous vaccines that could potentially put people’s health at risk.
However, biostatistical and epidemiological analysis of the data revealed that the rate of serious adverse effects like neurological deficits, joint pain, hospitalization, or death was no different than what is expected in the population from other causes.
According to several sources, the final agreement included over 1 million dollars in legal fees for the prosecuting lawyers, but no financial compensation was offered to the vaccine victims.
