4. Rezulin
Rezulin was an anti-diabetic drug manufactured by Warner-Lambert. After one year of being prescribed to patients with Type 2 diabetes, it became one of the drugs pulled from the market due to its risks.
At least 500,000 Americans used the medication. But the real pressure had been building to withdraw after links with liver failure and hepatitis were discovered. More specifically, there were 89 confirmed reports of liver failures, including 60 deaths.
The decision came after the FDA faced severe criticism for initially approving the drug despite concerns about its side effects and for allowing it to remain on the market after patients started to fall ill.
