5. Able Laboratories generic prescription drugs
Next on our list of drugs pulled from the market are not one particular drug but several ones. On May 23, 2005, Able Laboratories, a huge manufacturer of generic drugs at the time, suddenly decided to withdraw all of its products due to concerns about the quality of their manufacturing process. It was one of the biggest recalls ever in the drug business.
Some of the drugs were scrutinized for not being effective enough, and others were too strong. Moreover, the FDA discovered in its investigation that four of Able Laboratories’ managers falsified and fraudulently released into the market mislabeled and misbranded drugs. The company went out of business after this recall.
